Our work
The NBSAP Accelerator Partnership, led by countries and supported by institutions and non-state actors, strengthens global, regional and national ambition for biodiversity action. It provides a neutral space for countries to access and share financial resources, technical assistance and knowledge, promoting greater transparency and coherence between donors and across sectors.
Through its MatchMaking Mechanism, Facilitator Programme, and innovative, collaborative initiatives, the partnership enables access to support so countries can create and accelerate effective, cross-cutting NBSAPs, collectively delivering on the 23 targets of the Global Biodiversity Framework.
Our history
Driven by the ambitious leadership of countries.
Initially developed under the leadership of the governments of Colombia and Germany, The NBSAP Accelerator Partnership was first announced at the fifteenth Conference of Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (COP15) in December 2022, where it was endorsed through a Declaration of Intent by 23 governments and organizations, including Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, Belize, Chile, Colombia, EU Commission, France, Gabon, Germany, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland, Uganda, United Kingdom, Vanuatu, Alliance International for Biodiversity-CIAT, Conservation International, The Nature Conservancy, Wildlife Conservation Society, and World Wildlife Fund.
This milestone, driven by the leadership of participating countries and financial pledges from Germany and Norway, marked the beginning of the partnership’s inception phase, which focused on mapping the NBSAP landscape, assessing country needs, and defining its principles and services.
In September 2023, on the margins of the 78th UN General Assembly, the NBSAP Accelerator Partnership announced its official operational launch, stepping into a new development phase and formalizing its role in supporting countries in achieving their NBSAPs. During this time, significant progress was made in governance, membership, and resource mobilization, laying the groundwork for the core acceleration support programmes that support its global impact today.
Our vision
The vision of the NBSAP Accelerator Partnership is to become, by 2030, the strategic country-led initiative that accelerates the mobilization of technical and financial support for ambitious GBF implementation and elevates NBSAPs on the political agenda through its active membership, country engagement and by building connections between relevant stakeholders.

Members of the NBSAP Accelerator Partnership commit to ten guiding principles

IMPROVING COORDINATION AT ALL LEVELS TO DELIVER NBSAPs

Facilitating learning and knowledge exchange

Why it
matters
Today, over 1 million species are at risk of extinction, and Nature is declining globally at a rate unprecedented in human history. Human activities have significantly altered three-quarters of the land-based environment and about 66% of the marine environment, leading to a devastating loss of ecosystems we, and other species, depend on.
Reversing this trend is imperative—for the well-being of people, the planet, and future generations. Such an urgent call to action underscores the need for innovative support to accelerate country actions and help nations reach a trajectory that will bring our planet and global society back into harmony with Nature. Through the NBSAP Accelerator Partnership, countries, institutions, and non-state actors do just this. They come together to learn from each other’s expertise, align and coordinate action, and advance NBSAPs collectively to accelerate biodiversity action.
A future in harmony with Nature
As more countries, non-state actors, and institutions join the NBSAP Accelerator Partnership, the potential for impact continues to grow. Each new member strengthens the collective ability to accelerate biodiversity action and forge a sustainable future. With global cooperation, innovative support, and unwavering commitment, the vision of living in harmony with Nature by 2050 is within reach.
