The NBSAP Accelerator Partnership and the Indigenous Peoples and Biodiversity Coalition convened the 3rd National Roundtable on Indigenous Peoples and Biodiversity in the Philippines, bringing together Indigenous Peoples’ groups, civil society, international organizations, and government agencies to discuss the challenges, risks, and opportunities affecting Indigenous Peoples’ participation in biodiversity conservation.
While governments write NBSAPs, non-state actors, including Indigenous Peoples, local communities, women’s organizations, youth networks, and the private sector, are among the ones who can successfully deliver them. Side events at SBSTTA-28 & SBI-7 showed what sustained engagement and implementation can look like.
The Kunming Dialogue brings parties, Indigenous Peoples and local communities, women and youth representatives, academia, the private and financial sectors, and other stakeholders together in Kunming for an informal technical dialogue on collective progress in implementing the Global Biodiversity Framework, ahead of COP17.
The Spotlight Series profiles NBSAP Accelerator Partnership members and suppliers who are actively accelerating the implementation of National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) under the Global Biodiversity Framework. Each feature examines the specific capabilities, experience, and implementation approaches that members and suppliers bring, and how these align with needs and implementation gaps identified by countries.
Colombia is demonstrating that countries implementing ambitious NBSAPs are valuable providers of technical expertise, sharing practical experience with peers facing similar implementation challenges.
The CBD’s first Global Report on Collective Progress is now in draft form, with the feedback window closed. Its central message is clear: Achieving the Global Biodiversity Framework by 2030 will depend on faster, more coordinated implementation. As the conversation continues, the NBSAP Accelerator Partnership remains committed to supporting solutions.
Pacific nations advance the 30×30 target: Regional workshop strengthens collaboration ahead of COP17
The NBSAP Accelerator Partnership participated in the Pacific Regional Workshop on KMGBF Target 3 in Nadi, Fiji, joining biodiversity focal points and protected area practitioners from across the region to strengthen cooperation and accelerate implementation of the 30×30 target.
Through the NBSAP Accelerator Partnership’s Matchmaking Mechanism, officials from Colombia and Armenia met in Yerevan for a peer-to-peer exchange on COP Presidency experiences, supporting Armenia’s preparations for COP17.
The NBSAP Accelerator Partnership, the Government of Kenya, and IMPACT Kenya convened a three-day co-design workshop to strengthen Indigenous Peoples’ participation in Kenya’s NBSAP implementation, bringing together IP organizations, government representatives, and civil society to jointly shape an inclusive engagement framework.
Peru’s National Biodiversity Commission (CONADIB) convened its second meeting of the year to review implementation progress and strengthen coordination among government institutions, civil society, academia, and Indigenous Peoples’ organizations.
