As part of its commitment to the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, Colombia held a national workshop on 24 July 2025 in Bogotá to support advance the preparation of its 7th National Report to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). Organized within the framework of the GEF-8 Umbrella Programme, the event brought together institutions from the National Environmental System (SINA) to validate and strengthen tools for monitoring and reporting on the country's National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) implementation.

Through a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach, participants discussed lessons learned and best practices for reporting on national biodiversity actions, both for the upcoming report and for long-term system improvements. This workshop marks a concrete step in aligning Colombia’s biodiversity commitments with global reporting standards and ensuring transparency and accountability in the implementation of its NBSAP.

The NBSAP Accelerator Partnership is a country-led global initiative that supports the implementation of National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) to collectively achieve the goals and targets of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) and, ultimately, the global vision of living in harmony with nature by 2050. It is co-chaired by Colombia and Germany and supported by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety, and Consumer Protection (BMUV) through its International Climate Initiative (IKI), the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD), through the global project “GBF Implementation,” implemented by GIZ. Its work is facilitated by a Global Coordination Unit (GCU) hosted by the Secretariat of the CBD, UNDP and UNEP.
