The Technical University of Manabí (UTM) in Ecuador has established the Network of Researchers in Agrobiodiversity and Agroecological Systems for Environmental Conservation (RIASCA) to deepen scientific cooperation on biodiversity, sustainable agriculture, and ecosystem management. With support from the NBSAP Accelerator Partnership, the network is expanding its reach: the National Institute of Agricultural Research (INIAP) recently joined RIASCA, strengthening collective work on soil conservation and sustainable agricultural practices.
RIASCA is anchored at the university’s “Los Pinos” Center for Biodiversity Research and Technology Transfer, an emerging hub for applied research and knowledge exchange in the Manabí region. By connecting academic researchers, technical specialists, and local actors, the network seeks to promote resilient food systems and innovation grounded in Ecuador’s rich agrobiodiversity.
This continued collaboration contributes to the implementation of Ecuador’s revised National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP), reinforcing the role of research-based solutions and coordinated territorial work. The joint efforts of UTM, INIAP, and partners reflect a shared commitment to advancing science, local knowledge, and the sustainability of Ecuador’s biodiversity.
