The Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan held an online meeting on June 25, 2025, with development partners, international organizations, and financial institutions to strengthen coordination in biodiversity conservation. The meeting aimed to align the Concept for the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Biodiversity of the Republic of Kazakhstan until 2035 with ongoing and planned donor initiatives, focusing on cooperation and co-financing opportunities for effective implementation.
Target 19 of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework underscores the importance of cooperation at all levels and across all sectors, particularly in mobilizing financial resources, capacity building, technology transfer, and the active involvement of stakeholders and partnerships. Vice-Minister Mr. Nurken Sharbiev expressed gratitude for the established partnership, emphasizing the donor community’s vital role in achieving national biodiversity goals. He highlighted the importance of sustainable financing, resource mobilization, and coordination among partners to optimize efforts and accelerate biodiversity conservation goals.
The group also discussed key cross-sectoral issues such as climate, biodiversity, health, agriculture, and migration, along with successful local initiatives that can be scaled, highlighting that effective coordination among international organizations, donors, and ministries is crucial for tackling global challenges and ensuring sustainable development.
The meeting marked the beginning of a strategic, long-term partnership in implementing the "whole-of-government" and "whole-of-society" approach to biodiversity conservation, enabling Kazakhstan to address sustainable development challenges and preserve its unique natural heritage.

The NBSAP Accelerator Partnership is a country-led global initiative that supports the implementation of National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) to collectively achieve the goals and targets of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) and, ultimately, the global vision of living in harmony with nature by 2050. It is co-chaired by Colombia and Germany and supported by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety, and Consumer Protection (BMUV) through its International Climate Initiative (IKI), the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD), through the global project “GBF Implementation,” implemented by GIZ. Its work is facilitated by a Global Coordination Unit (GCU) hosted by the Secretariat of the CBD, UNDP and UNEP.
