The Philippines' Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), through its Biodiversity Management Bureau (BMB) in partnership with the Department of Agriculture’s (DA) - BSWM, is spearheading the operations of a National Oversight Committee aiming to mainstream biodiversity-friendly agricultural practices in the country.
The NBSAP Accelerator Partnership had the opportunity to join the second meeting of the committee, held in August at the Bureau of Soil and Water Management (BSWM) Convention Hall in Quezon City. With the formalization of the committee's rules of procedures and the creation of sub-committees composed of the various offices of the two departments, a whole-of-government approach is emphasized in the drive to promote and institutionalize Biodiversity Friendly Agriculture Practices (BDFAP)
This effort ties into the Philippines’ updated Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan and the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, with a clear focus on Target 10 enhancing biodiversity and sustainability in agriculture production areas.
The NBSAP Accelerator Partnership seeks to work closely with the DENR and DA in mainstreaming and popularizing these practices in the Philippines.

The NBSAP Accelerator Partnership is a country-led global initiative that supports the implementation of National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) to collectively achieve the goals and targets of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) and, ultimately, the global vision of living in harmony with nature by 2050. It is co-chaired by Colombia and Germany and supported by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety, and Consumer Protection (BMUV) through its International Climate Initiative (IKI), the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD), through the global project “GBF Implementation,” implemented by GIZ. Its work is facilitated by a Global Coordination Unit (GCU) hosted by the Secretariat of the CBD, UNDP and UNEP.
