Training on gender equality and systemic thinking

Nairobi, Kenya
12–16 May 2025

This training will bring together participants from seven countries for a focused exchange on gender equality and systemic thinking in biodiversity planning and policy.

The event is part of the project “Accelerating systemic change for gender equality and biodiversity conservation through NBSAPs”, funded by the Government of Canada. The objective is to build technical capacity and co-develop national strategies that apply gender-transformative, systems-based approaches to biodiversity governance.

Participants will:

  • Deepen understanding of gender equality in biodiversity policy

  • Explore real-world examples of gender-responsive and Indigenous-led conservation projects

  • Refine national-level implementation plans aligned with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, particularly Targets 22 and 23, and the CBD Gender Plan of Action 2023–2030

The NBSAP Accelerator Partnership is a country-led initiative to accelerate the implementation of National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs), raise their political profile, and drive collective action for nature. It is supported by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety, and Consumer Protection (BMUV) through its International Climate Initiative (IKI), the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD), through the global project “GBF Implementation,” implemented by GIZ. Its work is facilitated by a Global Coordination Unit (GCU) hosted by UNEP, UNDP and the Secretariat of the CBD.
