World Conference on Marine Biodiversity 2026
NBSAP Accelerator Partnership | Event
17 - 20 November 2026 | Bruges, Belgium
The 7th edition of the World Conference on Marine Biodiversity (WCMB 2026) will take place in Bruges from 17 - 20 November 2026. Endorsed as a UN Ocean Decade Event, the conference will be held under the theme “The marine biodiversity insights we need, for the ocean we want” and will provide an opportunity to reflect on progress and remaining challenges halfway through the UN Ocean Decade.
Organized as a high-level international meeting, WCMB 2026 will bring together policymakers, scientists, conservationists, industry representatives, and other stakeholders to exchange knowledge on marine biodiversity conservation and sustainable use. The conference will include multiple sessions covering scientific research, policy development, digital tools, taxonomy, monitoring systems, and capacity-building for future generations.
The NBSAP Accelerator Partnership is a country-led initiative that supports the implementation of National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) to collectively achieve the goals and targets of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. Co-chaired by Colombia and Germany, it is supported by the governments of Germany, Norway, Canada and France, and implemented by a Global Coordination Unit hosted by UNEP, UNDP, and the Secretariat of the CBD.
