The Africa Regional Workshop for Southern African Development Community (SADC) and East African Community (EAC) Member States will be held from 19 to 23 May 2025 in Cape Town, South Africa. Organized by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), this workshop aims to support member states in aligning their National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF).

The workshop specifically targets national focal points for the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGRFA) from selected SADC and EAC countries. It will also include sessions on synergies and integration into the NBSAP objectives related to the Protocols, other relevant multilateral environmental agreements, agri-food systems, and One Health.

Participants will include national focal points for biodiversity, representatives from regional bodies, and other stakeholders involved in biodiversity planning and implementation. The workshop will provide a platform for knowledge exchange, capacity building, and fostering regional collaboration.

The NBSAP Accelerator Partnership is a country-led initiative that supports the implementation of NBSAPs to collectively achieve the goals and targets of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. It is co-chaired by Colombia and Germany, supported by the governments of Germany, Norway, Canada and France, and coordinated by a Global Coordination Unit hosted by the Secretariat of the CBD, UNDP and UNEP.
