Capacity building for Philippines’ Indigenous Peoples through an IPBSAP costing workshop
The Non-Timber Forest Products Exchange Programme (NTFP-EP) and Indigenous Peoples’ and Community Conserved Areas and Territories (ICCA) Consortium Southeast Asia recently spearheaded a costing capacity building on the Indigenous Peoples’ Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (IPBSAP). In cooperation with the Indigenous Peoples and Biodiversity Coalition (IPBC), Biodiversity Finance Initiative (BIOFIN) of the UNDP, and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Biodiversity Management Bureau (DENR-BMB), this workshop supports IPBSAP implementation.
Held on December 9-10, 2025 in Quezon City, the workshop gathered representatives of various Indigenous Peoples organizations and other support CSOs to learn how to cost and finance activities related to the IPBSAP targets. By prioritizing activities and needs within their ancestral domains and their corresponding budgetary requirements, the participants identified funding gaps critical to the implementation of the IPBSAP.
The IPBSAP not only empowers IP communities to create localized biodiversity conservation initiatives, but it also contributes to the country’s NBSAP by incorporating Indigenous Peoples’ contributions and commitments to the KMGBF and PBSAP targets. The NBSAP Accelerator Partnership is working closely with the member NGOs of the IPBC, the government, and other international organizations to promote and mainstream the IPBSAP.
