Speaking at the launch, Inka Mattila, Representative of UNDP in Ecuador, emphasized the global importance of the country’s ecosystems. She noted that Ecuador is recognized as one of the most biodiverse countries in the world, and that the newly updated NBSAP provides a clear route map to protect this natural treasure while strengthening resilience and sustainable development.
The Minister of Environment and Energy, Inés Manzano, highlighted that biodiversity conservation can and must coexist with key productive sectors such as oil extraction, mining, and agriculture. She underscored that the Strategy offers a framework for aligning economic activities with environmental stewardship, ensuring that development contributes to the well-being of people and nature alike.
As one of the most biodiverse countries on the planet, Ecuador reaffirms its leadership by presenting a forward-looking and inclusive strategy that responds to global commitments under the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. The NBSAP Accelerator Partnership is a country-led initiative that supports the implementation of NBSAPs to collectively achieve the goals and targets of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. It is co-chaired by Colombia and Germany, supported by the governments of Germany, Norway, Canada and France, and coordinated by a Global Coordination Unit hosted by the Secretariat of the CBD, UNDP and UNEP.
