Kenya mobilizes stakeholders to drive biodiversity implementation

NBSAP Accelerator Partnership | Updates

June 16, 2025

Kenya’s Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry is leading the national efforts to improve coordination around the implementation of its National Biodiversity Strategy and Plan (NBSAP). Along with stakeholders, Kenya is revitalizing the role of its NBSAP Implementation Committee as a central platform to support collaboration and coherence across biodiversity-related actions.

A recent technical meeting in Nairobi brought together key partners to discuss concrete steps toward operationalizing the Committee and ensuring broad, inclusive participation, reflecting Kenya’s ongoing commitment to a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach and alignment with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.

The NBSAP Accelerator Partnership is supporting this process by providing technical input and coordination through its in-country facilitator, David Githaia. An upcoming event to formally launch the partnership in Kenya is expected to further reinforce momentum and stakeholder engagement around these national initiatives.
