Ecuador’s National Biodiversity Coordination Mechanism (NBCM) convened its first meeting, bringing together representatives from government, the private sector, civil society, academia, and development partners to strengthen coordination and advance the country’s biodiversity agenda. 

The meeting reviewed progress on the update of the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) and reflected on lessons learned from the previous implementation period. Participants also provided valuable inputs on addressing perverse incentives that negatively affect nature, strengthening private sector engagement, promoting awareness campaigns on pollutants impacting biodiversity, and developing sustainable financing mechanisms for biodiversity conservation. 

The active participation and diverse perspectives shared during the meeting reaffirm the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration to achieve national biodiversity goals and support the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.
