- Peru’s III National Congress of Regional Conservation Areas provided a platform to present the NBSAP Accelerator Partnership and its support to Peru’s biodiversity implementation efforts.
- The event brought together government and non-governmental actors working across 25 regions of the country and 39 regional conservation areas.
- The connections generated during the Congress open new opportunities for collaboration and synergies to advance Peru’s NBSAP and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.
Connecting national commitments with action on the ground
During the III National Congress of Regional Conservation Areas in Cusco, Alfredo Gálvez, the NBSAP Accelerator Partnership’s in-country fcailitator in Peru, presented the Accelerator and the technical support being provided to the Government of Peru and the Ministry of Environment to advance implementation of the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP).
The presentation took place during the session on International Cooperation and Strategic Partnerships for Conservation, bringing the Accelerator directly into a space where institutions and organizations are already working to deliver biodiversity action across the country.
Building a wider implementation network
Beyond the presentation, the congress created an opportunity to connect with government institutions, conservation organizations, development partners, and other actors working across 25 regions of Peru. These conversations highlighted existing initiatives, capacities, and experiences that can be better connected to support national biodiversity priorities.
For the NBSAP Accelerator Partnership, these connections are an important part of facilitation: identifying where efforts can reinforce each other, creating bridges between national and territorial actors, and helping turn existing initiatives into stronger contributions to NBSAP implementation.
Looking ahead
Peru’s diverse network of institutions and organizations working across its territories represents a significant opportunity to accelerate implementation. Continued engagement with these actors can help build practical partnerships and synergies around Peru’s biodiversity targets and the goals of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.
