On 14 and 15 May 2026, the NBSAP Accelerator Partnership participated in the BIODEV2030 Legacy Workshop in Nairobi, co-organized by the IUCN Kenya Country Office and the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry. The two-day workshop brought together approximately 40 participants from government, the private sector, civil society, academia, and development partners to reflect on the achievements of the BIODEV2030 project in Kenya and identify opportunities for sustaining and scaling its outcomes.

BIODEV2030 Phase 2 (2024-2026), implemented by IUCN in 15 countries including Kenya, has focused on advancing biodiversity mainstreaming across key economic sectors, including horticulture, livestock production, and agroforestry, by supporting policy reforms, strengthening stakeholder capacity, and developing landscape-level biodiversity investment opportunities aligned with the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.

The NBSAP Accelerator Partnership’s participation reflects the direct connection between BIODEV2030’s work and Kenya’s broader biodiversity implementation agenda. The Partnership is currently supporting the Government of Kenya in operationalizing the National Biodiversity Coordination Mechanism (NBCM) Secretariat, which builds on the multi-stakeholder dialogue, policy analysis, and institutional processes developed through the BIODEV2030 project. This collaboration illustrates how targeted biodiversity initiatives can contribute to longer-term national coordination structures that support the implementation of Kenya’s NBSAP and its commitments under the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.
