NBSAP Day highlights: Launch of the Facilitator Programme’s second global expression of interest
NBSAP Accelerator Partnership | Updates
October 23, 2024
We are excited to announce that the NBSAP Accelerator Partnership officially launched its second global call for expressions of interest on October 22, 2024, during the NBSAP Day at the UN Biodiversity Conference in Cali, Colombia. This call invites country and institutional members of the NBSAP Accelerator Partnership to apply for technical support through our Facilitator Programme.
NBSAP Day was a resounding success, as it brought together over 300 stakeholders, including policymakers, practitioners, and other key players, to discuss progress and share innovations in implementing National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs). The event featured presentations, interactive dialogues, and roundtables, with an emphasis on shared experiences and active engagement.
Mauricio Cabrera Leal, Vice Minister of the Environment, Colombia, emphasized the need for a whole-of-government, whole-of-society approach, sharing examples from Colombia that included stakeholder consultations with women, Indigenous Peoples, local communities, farmers, academia, and youth.
During the final session, Katherine Madden, Global Coordinator of the NBSAP Accelerator Partnership summarized highlights from the day and Inka Gnittke, Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection, Germany, emphasized the importance of the Facilitator Programme in driving effective NBSAP implementation, stating: “It provides direct support to countries and regions in accelerating biodiversity action and enhancing multi stakeholder coordination in NBSAP implementation.”
Building on the momentum of the first cohort of facilitators in Colombia, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ecuador, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Mozambique, Panama, Philippines, Sierra Leone, Sri Lanka, and Vanuatu co-hosting with SPREP (recruitments ongoing), we are eager to begin the next phase with the second global call.
Detailed information and application forms are available on our website.
