Collaborative efforts have never been more critical in meeting the ambitious targets of the Global Biodiversity Framework by 2030. The NBSAP Accelerator Partnership, a dynamic coalition of countries, institutions, and non-state actors, represents an innovative pathway for this unification. With its latest expansion, the country-led initiative welcomes a diverse group of new members from across the globe, further solidifying its mission to accelerate the implementation of National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) in alignment with the Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).

The NBSAP Accelerator Partnership’s membership is open to countries, institutions, and non-state actors who are ready to sign on to its 10 guiding principles and shared vision of achieving life in harmony with Nature–the ultimate goal of the CBD’s GBF. Members gain access to tailored NBSAP acceleration support, such as the NBSAP Accelerator Partnership’s Facilitator Programme and MatchMaking Mechanism. These resources connect countries with expertise, knowledge-sharing, and partnership to ensure ambitious country-initiated NBSAPs can be implemented and operationalized quickly, with maximum impact for sustainable development, biodiversity, and climate.

Over the past two years, the NBSAP Accelerator Partnership’s membership has grown significantly, expanding from the original 18 country members to 44. It also works alongside institutional partners and non-state actors, recognizing that countries cannot achieve the GBF alone. Including these categories of members, the NBSAP Accelerator Partnership is now 68 strong. The latest cohort includes seven countries, four institutions, and nine non-state actors, marking significant milestones. For instance, Kazakhstan is the first country to join from Central Asia.

New members bring a wealth of cultural, ecological, and developmental perspectives, key to setting bold goals, leading ambitious NBSAP implementation efforts, forging collaborative partnerships, shaping policies and practices, and mobilizing political will. Together, they are turning the GBF vision into reality. In particular, growing involvement will help strengthen political momentum for biodiversity action, raising the profile of NBSAPs and boosting support for biodiversity. It also helps mobilize financial and technical resources, knowledge, and best practices. A broader network enables members to tap into each other’s strengths and overcome implementation challenges together.
