NBSAP Accelerator Partnership | Updates

July 10, 2026

From 16–18 June 2026, the Philippines’ Department of Environment and Natural Resources–Biodiversity Management Bureau (DENR-BMB) convened a validation workshop in Quezon City to strengthen the aquatic component of the National Action Plan for Ecosystem Restoration and Species Extinction Prevention (NAPERSEP). The workshop brought together representatives from DENR-BMB, the Department of Agriculture and its attached agencies, NGOs, and members of the Philippine Aquatic Red List Committee.

Participants reviewed and validated priority freshwater and marine species, identified key conservation sites, and refined actions for inclusion in the updated NAPERSEP. As an annex to the Philippine Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (PBSAP), the plan was also reviewed to ensure alignment with national biodiversity targets.

Through the Facilitator Programme, the NBSAP Accelerator Partnership is supporting DENR-BMB in integrating NAPERSEP into broader national biodiversity implementation efforts and in developing requests through the MatchMaking Mechanism to mobilize technical and financial support for priority species conservation.
