The twentieth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to CITES (COP 20) will take place in Samarkand, bringing together governments and partners to advance global efforts on the sustainable, legal, and traceable trade of wild fauna and flora. The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) aims to ensure that international trade does not threaten the survival of species.

COP20 will review progress under the Convention, consider proposals to amend species listings, and strengthen measures to address illegal trade, improve enforcement, and enhance cooperation across sectors. The session will also provide a platform to discuss emerging challenges and opportunities for safeguarding biodiversity through effective international trade regulation.

The NBSAP Accelerator Partnership is a country-led initiative that supports the implementation of NBSAPs to collectively achieve the goals and targets of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. It is co-chaired by Colombia and Germany, supported by the governments of Germany, Norway, Canada and France, and coordinated by a Global Coordination Unit hosted by the Secretariat of the CBD, UNDP and UNEP.
