At the 80th UN General Assembly, Colombia proposed a landmark initiative to integrate biodiversity into global climate action, calling for a new COP30 agenda item and a Special Expert Group to strengthen coordination across the Rio Conventions. Placing the Amazon, Indigenous Peoples, Afro-descendant communities, and fair financing at the center, the proposal signals a bold push for the integrated, equitable action needed to address the climate and biodiversity crises together.
The third regional knowledge exchange of 2025, held in Peru, brought together Latin American and Caribbean countries and partners to advance NBSAP implementation through peer learning, collaboration, and tailored solutions.
